i just came across a large quantity of blue corn tortilla dough.
anyone have any ideas for what i could do with it.
besides the obvious making of tortillas.
i can only eat so many.

SHARING MY NEW DISCOVERY

I HAD TO VISIT MY LOCAL FOOD PANTRY FOR ASSISTANCE. I COME UPON A NEW FIND. I NEVER TRIED BEFORE, I WANT TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE. I FOUND MARSCAPONE, A SWEET SPREADABLE CHEESE, IT TASTES LIKE BUTTER AND CREAM CHEESE AND WHIPPED CREAM. I THINK ITS EVEN BETTER THAN CREAM CHEESE, BUTTER, ANDWHIPPED CREAM. I TRIED IT IN MY SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE, IT WAS HEAVENLY, ON THE PACKAGE IT SAYS ITS HALF THE CALORIES OF BUTTER AND NUTRIONAL VALUES OF DAIRY PRODUCTS. I TRIED IT IN MACARONI AND CHEESE INSTEAD OF BUTTER THAT WORKS GREAT. BUT YOU CAN'T MELT IT LIKE BUTTER FOR AN OMELET. I HOPE I CAN AFFORD TO KEEP IT ON MY GROCERY LIST, I HOPE IT WILL BE WORTH THE PRICE.

I just discovered a new comfort food! I'm a GENIUS!

Healthy low-fat yogurt, flavor of your choice (I prefer with real sugar, not that silly fake stuff)

Squeeze bottle of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup (from my home state, of course!)

Squeeze generous -mounds- of chocolate syrup into healthy yogurt often. Enjoy!

Spiced Chocolate Fruit Mead: Ambrosia Of The Gods!!

I just mixed up 5 Gallons of the following potion 4 days ago:

1 1/2 Gal. Raw Organic Fireweed/Wildflower Honey
1 1/2 Gal. Raw Organic Orange Blossom Honey
1 Gal. Canned Black Cherries and Juice
1 Gal Frozen Strawberries
1/2 Gal. Blueberries
1 Quart Blackberries
5 Lb. Mixed Pineapple, Banana, Papaya and Mango
1 Qt. Mangosteen Juice
1 Qt. Pomegranate Juice
1/4 Cup Ginger
1/4 Cup Cinnamon
1/4 Cup Nutmeg
1/4 Cup Allspice
1/4 Cup Cloves
2 Oz. Dried Heather Flowers and Tips
4 Vanilla Beans
1 Cup Dark Raw Chocolate Powder
2 Cups Scottish Yeast and the 2 Cups of Beer it was stored in
2 Oz.Yeast Nutrients

It is chock-full of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants and is very healing. Gauranteed to raise your spirits, too!!

It has just begun to ferment at the rate of one bubble every 30 seconds. Our batch of Dark Heineken got fermenting faster than 1 bubble per second! I hope it is ready for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I tried real hard to get Heather Honey, but had no luck. Can anybody help? I'm willing to pay quite a bit of money for it to be shipped from Scotland. I've read in Buhner's Sacred And Healing Herbal Beers that Pure Heather Blossom Honey is the consistency of Jello, which may account for the confusion over whether the Ambrosia of the Gods was a solid or a liquid.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Liquify all ingredients in blender.
Mix together all ingredients in a large glass water jug (carboy).
Wait 6 months to 5 Years, freely sampling as it progresses!!
Repeat making recipe and sampling as necessary. CAUTION!! There will be pieces of Cherry Pit in your Mead!!

When the Ancients made Mead, they used the enire hive, including the honey, wax, propolis, pollen, Royal Jelly and hundreds of angry bees. Bee Venom was considered an important contribution to the mix. The bodies of the bees and their larvae added protein to that already present in the yeast , making Mead a highly nourishing food. YUMMY!!

You can use it in cooking Immediately. After 6 Months you can begin using Alcoholic Mead for partying.. It makes a great sauce for beef, lamb, poultry, and pork. Add some Cayenne Pepper and Horseradish for a great seafood dip.

This is a very flexible recipe. Add any fruits and spices that get your taste buds quivering. The only ESSENTIAL ingredients for it to be Mead are Honey and Heather. Well, technically, only Honey. Preferably Heather Honey.

I SPELLED MY NEW DISCOVERY WRONG. FOR THOSE WHO NEED CORRECT INFORMATION THE CORRECT WORD IS : MASCARPONE , A SWEET SPREADABLE CHEESE. THE TASTE IS LIKE CREAM CHEESE, REAL BUTTER AND WHIPPED CREAM. I EXPERIMENTED WITH SPREADING IT ON BREAD FOR GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES, SPREAD ON PANCAKES, MELT IT IN MACARONI AND CHEESE. IT WAS FANTASTICO! MY PICKY EATER KIDS LOVED IT. ANYWHERE BUTTER IS CALLED FOR IT WILL ENHANCE THE RECIPE. BUT I COULD GET RESULTS MELTING IT FOR AN OMELET

Tomato chicken feta roll ups!

Roll up a thin and pounded out chicken breast with cilantro, shallots, and a little mild feta or a crumbly white cheese. The chicken breasts should be like those used for cutlets. Fasten the chicken pieces with toothpicks or string. Season the outside of the rolled up chicken with sea salt and white pepper. Lightly dust in flour. Brown the rolled up chicken pieces in a sauté pan. Set aside the chicken when browned. Cook diced onions – about a quarter cup, a clove of mashed garlic, a tablespoon of grated ginger. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of Madras curry powder. Add a can of tomato soup (sshhh – I won’t tell if you don’t tell – but the canned soup makes the dish) or about a cup or so of a good tomato sauce (better), a bit of water or stock if too thick. Add the chicken back – simmer – add mushrooms cut in quarters, heavy cream or coconut milk, and a pinch of cinnamon or Chinese five-spice powder. You want to make a good generous tomato sauce. Serve over or alongside jasmine rice.

There is joy when one cuts up the rolled up chicken and all the goodness come out on the sauce.

I recall my aunt surprising my cousin & I with nice hot bowls when we were watching 'Rudulph the red-nosed reindeer' on tv. Now it is a must get item in my visits back to the states. It is now also a fave of my brit boyfriends, so I have to ration it, or the supply would go in 2 weeks!

Artery Clogging Comfort Food

Gourmet Rice Dinner

1 Lb bulk sausage(mild or hot),browned(drained,optional)
1 medium green bell pepper,chopped
1 medium onion,chopped
1 box of Uncle Ben's wild rice mix(faster cooking works too)
2 cans of Cream of Chicken and Mushroom Soup
1 small jar of pimentos
1 small can of sliced mushrooms(optional)
1 full bag of finely shredded cheese(we use the 2 cup bag. yes the entire bag)

Start by browning the bulk sausage in large stew pot, drain if desired (we never do). Chop green bell pepper into nice bite size bits, do the same to the onion. Add to cooked sausage and cook for another 5 minutes or until onion and green bell pepper are tender. Add rice and seasoning packet, cans of soup, pimetos, sliced mushrooms(optional), and entire bag of cheese. Add about 1/2 cup of water at first, and if contents still don't look soupy enough then add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of more water. Stir, cover, and stir occassionally. Cook on Medium-Low for 30 minutes, stir to make sure it's not sticking to the bottom of the pan. Once fully cooked, serve with tortilla chips, or alone. Add extra cheese if desired! Perfect for cold wintery days, or whenever you want some comfort food!

Note: This is to be thicker than stew but loose enough to be eaten with a spoon. And when using wild rice judge doneness by the wild rice. Add more water if the consitency is too thick.
Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Hello,
I love to eat, I mean when you get to a certain age most everything fun is not good for you so you give it up.Food is one of my last guilty pleasures and untill my doctor tells me my arteries are just too clogged I will eat real butter and try to cover the world in cheese.I live in sonoma county and was raised in the south with a great appreciation for all things fried or smothered in gravy. This is a constant source of amusement to my husband who is a california native. He doesnt understand my love affair with mayonaisse, I thank god he had some time in north carolina(military) and will eat hush puppies with me.I pray to the gods of meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and most of all bacon.Who needs fast food???I dont and as long as I can make a pecan pie or fudge like my grandmother did I can solve all my kids problems with a little love and some comfort food.
By the way, we arent overweight and always throw a vegetable or two in just to balance the meal.I am proud to join your tribe...

Hello all...

I am new here and so much about seeking out comfort food in times of woe. My all-time favorite would have to be decadent, cheesy, rich, fatty, garlicky mashed potatoes.

Also I love lasagna, meatloaf, and if I must have a veggie, asparagus drenched in rich cheese sauce.

Dessert? Chocolate eclairs or pecan pie (warm and gooey).

Mmmm good.

celery syrup

before I had to stop drinking soda I loved Dr Browns Cel-Ray...
now that my nutritionist wants me to drink celery juice as a digestive and other holistic aid....I was wondering is I could make a viable syrup to add to seltzer...

naturally proportions would have to be tinkered with, but what ABOUT celery juice and maybe a very mild honey or maybe brown rice syrup (cant have sugar) well combined and reduced.....somehow I think the nice part of it would be I wouldnt need that much sweetener...as I recall the product of the good doctor was on the dry side...

feedback/ideas please

Hi everyone !

I'm Randall
Thought I would list my favorite " comfort foods " as I actually did a post on this in another Tribe.

Macaroni & Cheese
Grilled Cheese Sammiches
Pizza with Pepperoni
Triscuits & Sharp Cabot Cheddar Cheese
Ice Cold Coca-cola ... actually frozen is acceptable too :-)
Ice Cream ( Chocolate Chocolate Chip )
Dark Godiva Chocolates
Potato Chips fried in Lard
Rasberries
Mashed Potatoes smothered in butter & over-salted
Peas the same way.
Sugar cookies
Licking the salt off of pretzels and throwing away the pretzel

I hope to find my recipe box ... it is filled with some unique comfort food recipies that were handed down to me by a very special lady ...

Cheers all,

Randall

Cheesy Creamed Corn

This sounds like a "must make" for the weekend:

Cheesy Creamed Corn Casserole
1 stick butter, melted
1 large onion, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
1 small red bell pepper, chopped
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 –14.5 oz. can creamed corn
1/3 cup yellow cornmeal
¼ t salt
¼ t pepper
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
In a medium sauté pan, heat 2 T of butter over medium heat. Add onion and peppers and cook until softened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Combine remaining 6 tablespoons butter, eggs, and sour cream in a large bowl. Whisk together until smooth. Mix in corn, cornmeal, salt and pepper. Stir in cheese, onion and peppers. Turn into a 2-quart buttered baking dish. Bake in a preheated 350º F. oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until puffed and golden. 8 Servings

I red onion, thinly sliced into rings
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
Olive oil
2 large ripe plantains, sliced on a bias

Marinate the onion in the lime juice and set aside.
In a frying pan heat up olive oil to a very high temperature, then fry the plantains until they become golden colored on both sides, making sure to turn them several times.

Arrange the fried plantains on a serving platter and top off with marinated onion.
